The Head and Not the Tail

Heb. 9
27  And just as surely as it is appointed for all man to die once, and after that pass to their judgment,
28  so it is certain that Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many and after that, to those who look for him, he will appear a second time, not this time to deal with sin, but to bring to full salvation those who eagerly await him (Philips translation).

Jesus Christ came forth the first time to die for our sins. He was crucified and suffered under the powers that were set to kill him (1st Cor. 2:5-9). God allowed the powers of darkness to have their way. Jesus Himself said, “While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power of darkness are yours (Luke 22:53).” Christ’s crucifixion opened the door to an age of God’s people suffering victoriously for the name of Jesus. Many, many martyrs have died for their faith. This has all been to God’s glory. But now we are at the end of one age and the beginning of another. There is a second appearing of the Lord that is taking place now. It is happening for those who have eagerly awaited Him as verse 28 from our text states. He is coming (appearing) in His saints (2nd Thess. 1:10). Continue reading

A Door Standing Open in the Heavens

Rev. 4
1 ¶  After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.”
2  Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.

There is a door standing open in heaven. This is not historical in the sense that John saw this and it passed. There is still a door standing open in heaven. And what is “heaven” by the way? The Greek word for heaven is ouranos. It denotes more of a realm that a place. We have all grown up hearing and using the term “going to heaven.” Heaven is not a place in that sense. The word ouranos embraces both the natural heavens and the spiritual heavens. Here are the definitions according to Strong’s.

1) the vaulted expanse of the sky with all things visible in it
1a) the universe, the world
1b) the aerial heavens or sky, the region where the clouds and the tempests gather, and where thunder and lightning are produced
1c) the sidereal or starry heavens
2) the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings

We have a door standing open in the heavens. We have an ascension to make in God. This is akin to Jacob’s ladder. Continue reading
