Part of the fruit of the Spirit in a believer’s life is longsuffering. A few translations use the word patience, but longsuffering better conveys the spiritual significance of the word. What does it mean to be longsuffering? Longsuffering with what? Does it mean persevering through certain unpleasant circumstances in our lives? Does it mean enduring hardship? Every day people from every walk of life have to endure hardships of one kind or another. The world is filled with hardship. First, we must understand longsuffering as it is mentioned in the above verse is a fruit of the Spirit. This means it has been divinely created in our lives. It is not a natural response to the unpleasantries of the world. Second, we must understand the fruit of the Spirit is a response, not just an abstract manifestation.
